Online Banking Security Tips

Our Online Banking system has sophisticated built-in security features to help keep your information safe. You can assist by following a few common sense practices, including:

  • Never reveal your password to anyone or leave your password anywhere that someone else can obtain and use it.
  • Change your password on a regular basis.
  • Use the Exit button to end each Online Banking session. Do not use the Back button to exit the site.
  • Balance your account on a regular basis to make sure that no unauthorized transactions have taken place.

Your Liability Regarding Fraudulent Activity

You may also refer to your Online Banking Agreement.

  • Contact us immediately if you believe that any user ID, password, or other access codes you use for Online Banking and/or Bill Pay have been lost, stolen, or used without your permission.
  • The phone number for our Customer Service Center is 866.422.6574. Click here for hours of operation.
  • Notifying the bank within two business days of the occurrence of potentially fraudulent activity can limit your losses to no more than $50.00.
  • Notifying the bank after two business days of the occurrence of potentially fraudulent activity can limit your losses to no less than $50.00 or no more than $500.00.
  • Your liability for unauthorized Online Banking or Bill Payment transactions associated with your account is based on federal and state law and the terms specified in your Online Banking Agreement.

In Case of Errors or Questions

You may also refer to your Online Banking Agreement.

If you notice an Online Banking error on your statement, call or write to us no later than sixty (60) calendar days after we sent the FIRST statement on which the problem appeared.

You will need to provide the following information:

  • Your name and account number
  • A description of the error and an explanation of why you believe it is an error
  • The dollar amount of the suspected error and date on which it occurred

If the report was made by phone or in person, we will require that you send a written complaint within ten (10) business days following the date you notified us.

Your Responsibility

It is your responsibility to keep your online password, account numbers, personal identification information, and other account data confidential. Bank Rhode Island cannot be held responsible for customer errors or negligent use of the service and will not cover losses due to:

  • Input errors or misuse of the service
  • Negligent handling or sharing of passwords leading to unauthorized access to accounts
  • Leaving a computer unattended during an Online session (click 'Log Off' to end your session)

Protect your password

  • Make your Online Banking password different from any other password you use
  • Never write the password down or reveal it to anyone
  • Change your password frequently. To do so, select the “Self Service/ Change User ID and Password” during your Online Banking session
  • Always click 'Log Off' to end your session

 

System Requirements

User Credentials

  • Bank Rhode Island ensures that your connection to Online Banking allows only secure, encrypted communication between you and BankRI. You must provide a valid user ID and password each time you wish to log into the site.

 

Timeouts

  • If your computer terminal is left idle for more than a few minutes, your session will be terminated and you will be required to log back into the system using a valid user ID and password.

 

Virus Protection

It is your responsibility to protect your computer. BankRI recommends installing and maintaining antivirus software on your computer. An undetected virus could harm your computer system and could damage programs, files and hardware.

 

128-Bit Encryption

  • Encryption is a process in which information is scrambled as it is transmitted over the Internet. This helps to prevent loss of privacy and maintain confidentiality.
  • In order to provide you with robust security and privacy during your online banking experience, the Bank requires browsers capable of 128-bit encryption to access Online Banking. Please review the user documentation for your browser program to ensure that it has the required encryption capabilities.
