Philosophy & Giving Guidelines

Bank Rhode Island generally invests in organizations that match our focus areas. At a minimum, an organization must have 501 (C)(3) status as defined by the Internal Revenue Code.

Bank Rhode Island does not support grant requests for the following:

  • Individuals
  • Fraternal or political organizations
  • Trips, tours and conferences
  • Endowments
  • Local chapters of national health organizations related to a single disease
  • Religious groups or sectarian organizations
  • Colleges and Universities (non capital campaigns)

Grant Size

Bank Rhode Island’s contributions range in size with the average contribution less than $2,000. Smaller requests ($100 or less) may be made at a branch. Bank Rhode Island will review only one proposal per organization within a 12-month period.

In-kind donations

In-kind donations of facilities, technical resources and employee volunteers are considered on an individual basis.

BankRI invests in organizations that celebrate diversity and its many forms. We believe that different beliefs, customs, languages, foods, music and other elements that define one’s culture, are a source of strength for our communities and our state.
