Privacy Policy

Our Commitment to Protecting Your Privacy
Bank Rhode Island recognizes its obligation to keep information about you confidential. We value the trust you place in us by banking with Bank Rhode Island and consider our protection of your information to be an important part of our relationship with you.

As part of our commitment to protecting your privacy, we monitor and limit the disclosures we make, as described in this Privacy Policy. We do not provide information to outside parties for their independent use. Disclosures we do make are for the purpose of providing products and services to you and servicing those products and services. You don’t have to tell us to protect your information: protecting your privacy is part of our commitment to you.

Information We Collect
We collect different kinds of information as part of maintaining, servicing, and improving the products and services that are available to you. The information falls into the following categories:

  • information you provide to us in applications and other forms, such as your name, address, employment history, income, and assets;
  • information about transactions between you and the Bank, such as account balances and payment history;
  • information about transactions between you and a third party, such as information that a third party may provide when verifying information that we received from you;
  • information from public sources, such as telephone numbers and census data; and
  • information from a consumer report, such as your credit history with nonaffiliated third parties.

Disclosures We May Make to Third Parties
We may make certain disclosures as required or permitted by law, such as:

  • to a consumer reporting agency;
  • in response to a subpoena or administrative order; or
  • to protect against or prevent fraud.

We provide information to service providers who help us process your transactions and service your accounts. Our service providers may include:

  • online payment processors;
  • loan processors;
  • account data processors;
  • check printers;
  • credit card processors; and
  • property inspection companies, appraisers, and others who provide services related to loan closings.

We provide information to service providers (such as mailing companies) who help us market our services to you, as well as to other financial institutions with whom we have entered into an agreement to market products and services jointly (such as mortgage companies, insurance companies, and investment advisors). The information provided to these parties is drawn from the information listed under "Information We Collect," but is limited to the information that we believe is necessary to enable the third party to perform the requested service. These service providers and other financial institutions have all agreed not to use your information for any other purpose.

Keeping Your Information Secure and Accurate
In order to keep your information confidential, we limit access to the information to those of our employees who need to know that information to perform their jobs. Our employees are governed by employee policies that require them to maintain the confidentiality of customer information and they are subject to disciplinary action if they fail to do so.

We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect customer information. We assess new technologies for protecting customer information and upgrade our systems when appropriate.

Keeping your information accurate is also very important to us. If you believe any information we have about you is inaccurate or outdated, please let us know.

A Note About Our Former Customers
Even if you are no longer a customer at Bank Rhode Island, this Privacy Policy will continue to apply to any information we collected about you when you were our customer.

Keeping Current
We will provide a copy of our current Privacy Policy annually, so long as you continue to be a Bank Rhode Island customer. You can obtain a copy of our current policy at any time by calling us at (866) 4-BANKRI or by visiting any branch office.
